Depth Chart vs Stanford

Only notable change to the Washington two-deep ahead of Saturday's matchup with Stanford is sophomore outside linebacker Laiatu Latu is no longer listed. Prior to last Saturday's game against Utah the sophomore was still listed as on of two rush-ends for the Huskies along with senior Ryan Bowman. Bowman is again listed as a starter despite not playing against the Utes. Sophomore tight end Devin Culp has also been added to the depth chart this week as the third tight end, ahead of freshman Mark Redman.

Jacob Katona 2021 DL Birmingham, AL

Dear Rivals Members,

My son Jacob is a senior Defensive Lineman at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, AL. Jacob hasn't played much football in high school. He played a small amount as a freshman, and now he is playing as a senior. Jacob is a very good student with a 33 ACT score, a 4.4 GPA, and he has passed 4 AP tests so far.

Athletically Jacob stands 6-5, and weighs about 265#. He runs about a 4.9 40, and can dunk a basketball easily.

Since he hasn't played much football we had planned on going to every camp we could this summer, and on as many visits as we could this fall. Obviously that did not happen with COVID and the dead period.

Jacob did use the COVID summer period to really work hard to get in great shape. He was able to work all summer with several Power 5 and Pro lineman, and he feels that he can compete at that level based on those summer workouts. With all of the changes going on in recruiting it seems that many schools are reluctant to take a chance on an unknown prospect. . It is our hope that maybe someone on the board has a contact on the staff that you could send his HUDL link to, and hopefully they can start to follow him. Jacob's high school plays in 7A which is the largest classification in Alabama, so he should get some good film against good competition this season. They will play 3 top 100 national teams this season.

Take care and best of luck,

Steven Katona

Joe Tryon

Junior defensive end / outside linebacker Joe Tryon has signed with Athletes First, an NFL agency, thus declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Tryon, a Butkus Award watch list honoree, is expected to be a first or second day pick in next years' draft and was expected to declare had there been a 2020 season. I'll have more on this soon.

Wooooof!

Washington head coach Jimmy Lake has tweeted out the 'Woof' bat signal. Indications are that it is a former USC commit who has long been rumored to end up at UW.

Update: Story on UW landing four-star Murrieta Valley (Calif.) TE Jack Yary, a 2020 recruit. The school announced Yary has signed an aid agreement and Yary is listed on the official roster, at 6-foot-6 and 246 pounds, which clears up whether or not he is enrolled.

Potential Good News On the Way...

Washington appears on the verge of landing its first verbal commitment in the 2022 class. With the recent pledge of three-star O'Dea HS (Seattle, Wash.) offensive guard Owen Prentice in this years' class the Huskies have finished the 2021 class along the offensive line and shifted focus solely to the next cycle.

With that said, I would expect Graham-Kapowsin offensive lineman Olaivavega (Vega) Ioane to be the first commit in the trenches for UW in 2022. Ioane, listed at 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, received his offer from the Huskies last summer after a strong showing at the Dirt Dawg Camp and Scott Huff has done well with the in-state prospect since.
