Darrian Franklin

The nation's No. 103-ranked 2016 prospect, LB Darrian Franklin, told me this week that Washington is one of the main schools in contact with him, along with Cal, Arizona State, UCLA and USC. Pulling him out of California is going to be tough as he's very familiar with UCLA and USC, but he said he's likely to visit Washington at some point.

Garcia picks USC

Isaac Garcia from Bellevue committed to USC on Monday night. That's a tough loss for Washington in-state just as the Huskies have been looking to put a fence up around the state. His early commitment to the Trojans illustrates just how difficult that's going to be. The good news? The fact that Garcia, a Rivals250 prospect, is ranks No. 5 in the state from 2016 is a sign of just how much talent is in Washington in that class. Brandon Wellington is already on board so Washington has reason to hope for a big in-state haul, still, but it's tough to see two of the state's top five prospects (Eason, now Garcia) committed elsewhere.

To my knowledge Washington had not yet offered Garcia but you ideally would like to see him stay open anyways so the evaluation could run its course.

Garcia's teammate, Isaiah Gilchrist, remains uncommitted and does have an offer from UDub. He's the bigger priority.

Mustafa Branch....

In-state linebacker Mustafa Branch committed to Stanford shortly after receiving an offer from David Shaw's staff. That's significant because the Huskies were showing serious interest. In fact, Branch had just attended UDub's game against Stanford as an unofficial visitor for Washington.

The fact that Branch jumped on the UDub offer so quickly is probably not good news for anyone that would seek to flip Branch, but you can bet Washington will still try to stay in touch and they may ultimately even go through with an offer. However, the linebacker class has quickly come together and it can't be considered a huge loss given those developments.

It's a bigger loss for Oregon State. Branch's only planned official, that he knew of when we spoke with him on Saturday, was to be to Corvallis. The Beavers had been recruiting him harder than anyone else.

USC offers Tate Martell

Who didn't see this coming?

Steve Sarkisian has offered 2017 quarterback Tate Martell once again. He accepted his commitment so early at Washington that he made national headlines, drawing some criticism. Now Sarkisian has offered Martell as head coach of the Trojans, per Martell's Twitter.

Earlier this week in 'Around the West' Rivals.com's regional analysts said the Huskies would have to withstand some serious competition for Martell. Well, here we go.
