Coach Peterson's strategy!

I believe he is in the lab designing plays that Bama has never seen before. His brilliance scares me! I don't think Washington can run straight at Alabama. Coach Peterson is too smart to try that right off the bat. I think he will use misdirection and splendid ball fakes to try and open up running lanes. His schemes are nothing short of brilliant!

@LarsHanson am I far off on my assessment?

Dawg Bites: Sunday, December 11th

It's been a hectic last week but we've got a handful of important notes for Sunday night's Dawg Bites, that might clear up several recruiting questions surrounding Washington's 2017 recruiting class.

*** 2017 three-star Provo (UT) wide receiver Ty Jones [Washington commit] -- I was able to confirm that Jones did in fact take an official visit to Utah this weekend. Washington is aware of the visit and there doesn't appear to be too much concern, if any, on the Huskies end with his visit. Wide receivers coach Bush Hamdan made an in-home visit with Jones last Thursday prior to his visit to Utah and the two still appear on track for him to enroll at UW.

"It was a very positive experience and we always love Coach Hamdan on our campus. He is always very positive and represents the U of W very well. We are excited for Ty and his future at the U of W," said Clayton Hall, Jones' coach at Provo. "Ty is graduating early from Provo High and is going to start classes at the U of W in January. I believe he will be attending Spring ball with the aspirations if playing next season."

Washington has been firm on the three receivers they're taking this season: Alex Cook, Terrell Bynum and Jones. Jones did commit before making an unofficial visit and since that visit all has been good on the UW front. It doesn't help that he's taking a late visit but it does help that Hamdan got in for an in-home visit before hand and everything appears on track for Jones to enroll at Washington.

*** 2017 four-star Sumner (Wash.) running back Connor Wedington [uncommitted] -- This situation has been building for a while but there wasn't confirmation on the Wedington front until he received his acceptance late last week to Stanford. While Washington was able to hold off Stanford [and others] for Molden and others this is different.

During the summer and even this fall Washington has been working to set up official visits with other running backs including four-star USC commit Stephen Carr. Carr is expected to visit Washington in January, but the Huskies have the luxury of simply moving Salvon Ahmed, a four-star athlete, over to running back and solve the problem that way.

UW has only offered four running backs this class: Wedington, Carr, Kennedy Brooks [Oklahoma commit] and Najee Harris [Alabama commit]. Do not expect UW to flip Harris or Brooks from Oklahoma, but Carr is one to watch along with a simple move for Ahmed.

Washington also has depth at running back with Gaskin just a sophomore, Sean McGrew and Kamari Pleasant both redshirting this season and other players able to play both ways if need be. But the expectation is for Wedington to commit to Stanford but it will be a situation to monitor the final month following the dead period.

*** 2017 three-star Portland (Ore.) Westview defensive tackle Brandon Pili -- Sources indicated to TDR that there are still no spots available for the Huskies 2017 class to offer the rising PNW prospect. Washington is focusing primarily on the prospects already committed and making sure they stick.

As we reported already Marlon Tuipulotu is set to enroll in the spring and his recruitment has been shut down for a while. Washington is still working on Jay Tufele out of Utah but it appears the class is set with Jordan Lolohea being a mission prospect and not counting against the 2017 class. Even with schools like Notre Dame jumping in the mix last week the Huskies appear content with where things stand on the DL front with this class.

Dawg Bites Sunday, December 4th

Washington will make its first College Football Playoff on Dec. 31 in Atlanta, Georgia against the No.1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Normally for most first-time schools this would provide a key spark to finish out this years recruiting class...but Washington only has two spots left and at least one will go to an offensive linemen.

But what this has done is make an early mark on the 2018 class while only impacting a couple key 2017 recruits. We've got your latest bag of Dawg Bites to finish off your weekend...

*** 2017 five-star Graham (Wash.) Graham-Kapowsin OT Foster Sarell -- As we reported last week the schools that didn't have a championship game to prepare for -- USC, Nebraska and Stanford -- all made in-home visits with the No.3 prospect in the country.

This week it's time for the head coaches to make the rounds for Sarell, with his mother telling Rivals that head coaches from Notre Dame, Stanford, Washington, USC and Nebraska will make in-home visits this week. That includes Chris Petersen, with the Huskies set to host Sarell for his final official visit before making his commitment on Jan. 7 at the U.S. Army All-American showcase game in San Antonio, Texas.

Washington is doing much better for Sarell than people think, and the Huskies 12-1 season has certainly done its part to keep the five-star prospect on the board. From the beginning UW was planning to go to the end if need be to land Sarell, and getting the final official visit while preparing to face Alabama with a chance to play for the National Title on the line...the visit could not come at a better time for Washington.

*** 2018 four-star Corona (Calif.) Roosevelt WR Chase Williams -- Williams has been up to Washington for three unofficial visits already in the process and he's continued to build a strong relationship with wide receivers coach Bush Hamdan. The Rivals150 prospect said after the Huskies' 41-10 victory over Colorado in the Pac-12 Championship that Washington will certainly be in his top 3-5 schools when he cuts his list in February.

"They came up real fast within these last two years it's crazy," Williams said of UW. "I mean it obviously shows that they are a team coming up especially with young guys so it gives me a good feeling about the program for the future."

Williams said fellow Pac-12 programs Cal and USC are also up there with Washington in schools that are standing out. The early read is Washington is certainly in a good position but it will be a USC-UW battle in the end and I believe Hamdan will continue to pull in elite WR's from California, including Williams.

*** 2018 four-star Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco ATH/Safety Jaiden Woodbey -- Woodbey, who also came up with Williams for an unofficial in November, is another top 2018 prospect to watch in the coming months with Washington. I asked him his thought of the Huskies' Pac-12 Championship victory and he replied, "[Laughs] 2 words! GO HUSKIES -- They completely dominated from Q1 to Q4, especially with [Taylor] Rapp getting 2 interceptions."

Woodbey is unsure if he will still follow through on his January commitment date, but regardless I don't see a scenario where he doesn't choose Washington unless defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake takes a different job, which won't be the case.
