DawgBites: Tuesday, April 25th

It's been a while since we've had a DawgBites to refresh the board on where the Huskies stand heading into the summer recruiting period. With recent commitments from four-star DE Draco Bynum and three-star (former four-star) tight end Devin Culp, both northwest prospects UW expected to land this month after offering Bynum in early April and Culp in January.

As things stand Washington has eight verbal commitments: Quarterback (two), Running Back (zero), Wide Receiver (three), Tight End (one), Offensive Line (none), Defensive Line (one), Linebacker (one), Cornerback (zero), Safety (zero) and no special team verbals.

Here's a run down of some notes and names to watch moving forward...

Running Back: Washington will take one running back in the class and 2018 three-star Palmdale (Calif.) RB Richard Newton appears to be that guy. The Huskies offered Newton on March 30th with UW already being his No.1 school before the offer came in. However, he hasn't yet taken an unofficial visit and Chris Petersen prefers to have recruits visit (and with their family ideally) before committing, with Ty Jones the only real exception to that rule. Newton told me after his offer that Cal, WSU and Utah were behind the Huskies on his list, but UW will wait for him to visit and its expected he will commit on that visit if not immediately after.

Offensive Line: Washington will take three along the offensive trenches in 2018, with the expectation being three-star Fife (Wash.) OT MJ Ale being the first (and coming soon) to commit, with Justin Dedrich and Steven Jones still being the main targets.

2018 3-star RB to Visit Washington in May

2018 three-star Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco running back Demetrious Flowers informed me this afternoon he will visit Washington in May, but no specific date is set as of yet. UW running backs coach Keith Bhonapha has played point on his recruitment thus far and while the Huskies haven't offered it's one that would be a game-changer for him.

In addition, Boise State, Nebraska, Oregon and Texas have been showing interest as of late along with UW. He currently holds offers from Arizona State, Hawaii, Iowa State and UCLA.

Update on 3-star TE Devin Culp

2018 three-star Spokane (Wash.) Gonzaga Prep tight end Devin Culp confirmed with me this morning he will take another unofficial visit to Washington this weekend, and I expect the No.3 in-state prospect to join the UW commit list this weekend.

Culp picked up an offer in January during an unofficial visit and since then he's built a strong relationship with UW tight ends coach Jordan Paopao and a couple UW commits. The Huskies will take one tight end in this class and even though Culp is rated as a WR he will play TE at Washington.

A former and expected to return to be four-star prospect Culp was a one-time Oregon commit before the coaching change in Eugene over the off-season.
