The only "fashion" commentary

Here's what players on both sides of the ball are wearing for the Husky spring game:

Offense in purple jerseys and gold pants.

Quarterbacks in black jerseys and gold pants. - Reminder that quarterbacks won't be live during scrimmages, meaning they can't get hit.

Defense in white jerseys and purple pants.

All in gold helmets.

Limited guys

TB Deontae Cooper, TB Jesse Callier and OL Colin Tanigawa out running around getting some work in. They're not practicing with the rest of the team as they recover from their respective injuries, but they're still out on the field practicing on their own.

Gauntlet drill

Some highlights from the gauntlet drill the Dawgs just ran:

- No huge surprise here, but big hits and stops from nose tackle Danny Shelton and linebacker John Timu

- Derrick Brown has time and time again proven he's the one to beat when he carries the ball during these drills. Just has to lower his shoulder, and he can barrel through.

- Defensive end Josh Shirley got burned twice during the drill. He's been known to give quarterbacks a hard time with the sacks he comes up with, but has a tough time defending the run game.

Team period #1

The first team scrimmage is over.

Keith Price threw a pass to Bishop Sankey for a touchdown.

Cyler Miles threw two touchdown passes - one to Kevin Smith and one to Antavius Sims.

QB competition

As promised, there would be a few competitions.

The quarterback competition was to see who could hit the field goal crossbar.

Sarkisian, Tuiasosopo, Price, Miles, Lindquist and Brown all competed.

Lindquist, Sarkisian and Miles all hit the crossbar - Lindquist and Sarkisian on their first try.

Price threw long on two attempts.

Scrimmage #2 and 3

The second and third team scrimmages were a little different than the first one, which started in the red zone. The second and third started from more of a real game-like situation on thier own 25.

The defense won the second team period, as Price, Miles and Lindquist all failed to make touchdowns for the offense.

Troy Williams saw more activity in the third team period, and was able to complete a few first down plays and a touchdown pass to Antavius Sims.

Kicking competition

Travis Coons and Cameron Van Winkle were the two place kickers who actually participated in the kicking competition. Sarkisian was pleased to see that through the anticipation of performing in front of fans and loud teammates, the two kickers made field goal after field goal.

Both Coons and Van Winkle made five of six field goals from varying distances. They both hit one after the other 25, 30, 35 and 40 yard field goals. On the 45-yard field goal, both missed, kicking short, on their first try, but hit it on their second tries.

After watching the entire second half of spring, it looks like this was more than just a competition for the fans viewing pleasure - it was really a continued competition for this spot on special teams.
