This one is a little more surprising than Jeff Choate to Montana State and more recently Bush Hamdan to the Falcons. Strausser is well liked by those he has worked with and recruited against, but he's never been the most notable recruiter for Washington and while it was always an uphill battle, losing 5-star OT Foster Sarell to Stanford didn't help.
The Broncos will likely announce the hire either Sunday or Monday with UW beginning the process to find his replacement right away. One name to watch is Boise State OL coach and co-offensive coordinator Scott Huff, who coached under Petersen as the BSU OL coach from 2007-09 and TE's from 2010-13 plus 2006.
Strausser held the title of Associate Head Coach and OL coach, with the former being mainly for salary purposes and in the case of Huff it would allow him to get a raise with Lubick/Smith both being Co-OC's. Huff could also add Hamdan's title of passing game coordinator, but associate HC is more likely. Other names are being considered but that's the name I would watch most moving forward.
UPDATE [4:21 p.m. Sunday]: From what I've been able to gather the Husky assistants were all on vacation last week, including defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski taking some time to recover from a shoulder replacement. Around that time is when the Broncos came calling to approach UW OL coach Chris Strausser with the offer and sources I've spoken with said the hire/departure is expected to be confirmed Monday morning.
Petersen isn't expected to take long to find his replacement either, with Arizona OL coach Jim Michalczik and Boise State co-offensive coordinator / OL coach Scott Huff has top candidates. I believe Petersen will choose Huff due to their extensive history at Boise and having a younger coach that will have more energy in recruiting playing key factors.
