Quick Note on 4-Star Safety Isaiah Pola-Mao

I spoke briefly with 2017 four-star Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe safety/athlete Isaiah Pola-Mao this morning, who informed me that he's looking at taking his official visit to Washington on September 3-4 when the Huskies host Rutgers for their season opener.

The No.176 overall prospect in 2017 has maintained his high interest in Washington, and with the Huskies looking to wrap up their class sooner rather than later. Getting him on campus for his first official could go a long way in securing their second and final safety for this class.

Looking For UW Football Reporter...

With the upcoming 2016 UW football season on the horizon TheDawgReport.com is looking for a student (preferably) at the University of Washington who is majoring in communications, or a similar field if applicable, that is interested in covering the football program for fall practices and home games for the 2016 season.

This position is unpaid, but he is a good resume opportunity and could lead to other opportunities down the road. For those interested parties please email lars[dot]hanson@wsu[dot]edu along with a resume and a paragraph on why you are interested in being the UW football beat writer for Rivals.

Quick Note on Jaiden Woodbey

I spoke with 2018 four-star athlete Jaiden Woodbey this week, and he said Washington is one of the schools that is starting to become a favorite mainly due to his relationship with defensive backs coach and Co-Defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake. The junior-to-be was slated to visit UW for their last Rising Stars Camp, but had to cancel last minute. However, it was more of circumstances and not for a lack of interest.

Expect the Huskies to get Woodbey on campus this season for an unofficial visit...

Quick Recruiting News and Notes

With the recent commitment of Brandon McKinney, Washington now holds 11 verbal commitments and with roughly 10-11 players expected to graduate, people have asked what the number will be for this class overall. I've been able to get that answer and a couple of other notes...

- Washington currently has 83 players on scholarship, leaving two free for either a walk-on to earn a scholarship or for UW to use those toward the '17 class. From what I've been told Washington will hold those over for the '17 class, given that numbers are already limited.

- The Washington coaches are working with the number of 17 scholarships for this years class, with the max being 19, or as few as 15. But the way the Huskies are expecting this it will be 17 for this class, with the prospects being known who they want and if they don't they already have been working with for months, so the offers are slated already.

- UW will still take one more cornerback and one more safety. The main targets at this point are Isaiah-Pola Mao (expected to choose UW), Elijah Hicks, Salvon Ahmed (expected to pick UW), with Chaz Ah-You being a 2019 prospect essentially, so he's not going to count against the current numbers no matter where he goes. KJ Jarrell is still being recruited by UW but the expectation is Pola-Mao will be the second safety.

- As many have gathered Washington has essentially turned a decent amount of their attention to the 2018 class, almost across the board. With Washington hosting both Brevin White and Jacob Sirmon this weekend, with the questions being raised about Smith's status being on a one-year contract, the Sirmon family has told Rivals they will open up their recruitment if Smith is fired, no matter who is hired to replace him. Not to say Sirmon still can't stick with UDub but they are still keeping the lines open with others just in case.

Update on Remaining Visitors...

With the weekend winding down all of the out of town unofficial visitors have left UDub, but there are still the in-state prospects including one surprise: Foster Sarell. Sarell has said repeatedly over the past couple of months that he wouldn't be taking any more unofficial visits and said he wouldn't be at UW's Rising Stars Camp, but he decided to attend the Passing Camp UW is hosting today.

Also remaining on campus are 2017 four-star Kirkland (Wash.) Juanita athlete Salvon Ahmed and 2017 four-star Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline offensive guard Henry Bainivalu. Dylan Morris, a 2019 quarterback at Graham-Kapowsin high school where Foster also attends, is participating in the camp.
